Fair season

August is usually a busy month for me. This month, I had two county fairs, the Williamstown Fair and the Chesterville Fair, both in Eastern Ontario.

I have been a mainstay of the Williamstown Fair for close to two decades now but the Chesterville Fair is a more recent addition. It's not as big as the fair in Williamstown - there's no mechanical midway, for instance - and I don't think they get as many people through the gates. However, the Chesterville Fair does have a demolition derby, which is a mainstay of many a county fair - and something that, to my recollection, has never been offered in Williamstown.

In Williamstown, I usually do a show at the centre stage, which is a permanent structure at the Williamstown Fairgrounds. I don't think it's used much more than once a year. In Chesterville, I do my shows in the kids' tent, which is a portable canopy that the fair board puts up during fair time. This year, they told me that they got a bigger tent so they could accommodate more people. Apparently, a few people were frustrated having to watch my show while standing out in the hot sun last year. I was impressed that I'm good enough to command an audience that is willing to broil while I entertain them.

That is me after finishing my last show on Sunday, August 27. As you can see, I have added even more Jokers to my hat band.

After one of my shows, some kids wanted their picture with me. Here is the result:

One of the things I like best about performing at fairs is I get to meet other showbiz people. This guy, Jean Pierre, is an amazing juggler and unicycle rider.

Thank you to the Williamstown Fair and the Chesterville Fair for having me.

Until next year.
